Before getting Tattooed

We recognize that pursuing a body modification like a tattoo can be daunting, especially if it's your first one. At 5th Street Ink we value your health and safety as much as we seek to give you the perfect tattoo. When it comes to creating a clean and welcoming environment, we've got your back. All the same, we encourage you to consider these tips to make your tattoo appointment go as smoothly as possible.

  1. Drink plenty of water to make sure you are hydrated. Well Hydrated skin will be in better condition to get tattooed. Avoid Alcohol and aspirin for 24 hours as both can thin your blood
  2. Get plenty of sleep up to and especially the night before your appointment
  3. Avoid excessive sun exposure as a sunburn may result in having to reschedule your appointment
  4. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area you would like to get tattooed. There is also a chance that your clothing may get ink or stencil on it that may not wash out.
  5. Eat before your appointment. This will give you energy and stamina. If you have a long appointment, bring a snack or lunch. We will be happy to take a break if you need to eat - as no food is allowed in work areas.
  6. We offer free consults so you can meet and chat with your artist before you make an appointment. Once you have made the decision to get tattooed and picked your artist, please feel free to ask questions during your appointment. If you are unsure of a drawing or the placement of a stencil - speak up! A design you love applied at proper size and placement is a priority to us - and we want you to be sure of your decision.
  7. Prepare for aftercare. We will go over aftercare with you so feel free to ask for any clarification if you are unsure of anything.  This process typically involves daily care and staying clear of soaking in water for about two weeks. This included hot tubs, swimming, and baths. Timing your tattoo appointment according to upcoming activities is a good thing to consider.
  8. Always feel free to contact us or stop by if you feel your healing is not optimal or you have any questions.
